Bapst, Silver-top-Gold Diamond Brooch

Attributed to Bapst, this antique diamond brooch evokes the splendour of French court jewellery during the Second Empire. Probably dating from around 1850–1870, its oval centrepiece combines a diamond cluster with delicate foliate scrolls, draped swags and cascading articulated drops. These pointed pendants exemplify the en pampilles fashion associated with Empress Eugénie and documented Bapst commissions. The composition balances architectural symmetry with botanical ornament, allowing suspended diamonds to animate the design as the wearer moves.
